AXCESS Inc. and TVL Inc. Deploy Active RFID Solution
for Computer Asset Tracking and Protection

Automatic “Hands-Free” Asset Identification and Tracking
Reduces Inventory Loss at a Large State University

August 2, 2004

Dallas, TX. (August 2, 2004) - AXCESS International Inc. (AXCESS - OTCBB:AXSI), a leading provider of RFID and video surveillance systems for physical security and asset management, today announced that its ActiveTag™ RFID technology is being used by a major state university to prevent asset losses. The AXCESS radio frequency identification system has been successfully integrated into the WiseTrack® asset management software developed and provided by TVL Inc. This enables university security officials to automatically identify, track and protect valuable assets such as laptops and other computer equipment. The protection of IT assets recently gained national exposure with the loss of computer hard drives at the Department of Energy’s Los Alamos Laboratory.

The project is the first phase of a plan to implement a campus-wide asset management system. The name of the university remains undisclosed to avoid compromising the nature of the security solution. The ActiveTag™ RFID solution provides a battery-powered (or “active”) wireless tag affixed to the asset, enabling the asset to be identified and tracked throughout the facility to prevent unauthorized movement or removal. Each ActiveTag™ transmits a signal containing the tag identification and location to palm-sized receivers located strategically throughout the facility. The data is automatically entered into the WiseTrack database over the LAN/WAN or Internet, thereby updating the asset information or launching a security alert.

The open architecture and graphical user interface of the WiseTrack System allows for a seamless integration with the ActiveTag™ hardware which includes tags, activators, receivers and antennas. In addition to asset tracking on university campuses, the AXCESS ActiveTag™ system is undergoing installations for asset, vehicle and personnel access control and tracking within medical facilities, corporations, and governmental facilities including the Department of Defense.

Unlike systems based on proximity readers and passive RFID tags, the AXCESS ActiveTag™ solution is not dependent on voluntary compliance. It allows authorized persons to move tagged assets freely without requiring them to remove them from briefcases or purses. Battery-powered beacons can automatically pinpoint the location of tagged items that have been misplaced.

“Our system was designed with an open architecture to allow for easy integration and multiple uses across many industries,” commented Ben Donohue, Vice President of Business Development for AXCESS Inc. “The open interface and TCP/IP Network capabilities of our ActiveTag™ product line made for any easy integration into TVL’s WiseTrack® System. Hands-free RFID automation allows the customer to instantly determine the location of tagged assets and protect them. We continue to see a growing demand for IT asset protection and active RFID is ideally suited for the solution.”
